How to Uninstall Domain Controller Windows 2008 R2

Today we will look at how to uninstall Domain Controller Windows 2008 R2. The use of Dcpromo is still the proper way to remove a domain controller server in an Active Directory infrastructure. The following article provides an example of these steps.
Some situations, such as server failure or crashes of the Dcpromo option, require manual removal of the active directory domain controller from the system by cleaning up the server’s metadata.

Uninstall Domain Controller

Now the final step is to remove the server 2008 R2 active directory domain controller.

Run command prompt, type dcpromo, and then hit enter.

If the domain controller is a global catalog server, a message pops up to warn you about the impact of removing a global catalog server from the environment, and then click ok to continue.

On the “Delete the Domain” window, untick the box, and then choose next.

On the Administrator password window, type password and confirm a password for the local Administrator account, and then choose next.

On the Summary window, if you need to save the settings that you chose to an answer file that you have used to automate subsequent operations in Active Directory Domain Services and then click on the Export settings button. Enter a name for your answer file, and then choose Save.
If not Review your selections, and then choose next to remove AD DS.

Select the “Reboot on completion” box to reboot the server after the service has been removed.

Remove Roles

After restarting the server 2008 R2 domain controller, Log in with the local administrator account and then open Server Manager. Click on Roles and then click on Remove Roles.

Remove the rule wizard, review the information on the “Before You Begin” page, and then choose next.

On the Remove Server Roles window, clear the “Active Directory Domain Services” and “DNS Server” boxes, and then choose next.

On the “Confirm Removal Selections”, then click Remove.

Do you want to restart now, choose Yes.

After restarting, log in to the server then you can see this screen below, and click Close.
